While the food remains identically delicious to that of its District 1 sister restaurant, the atmosphere at Ohan Phu My Hung rivals that of any modern Japanese eatery found in San Francisco or New York. Creatively grown stalks of bamboo line the walls of the main ground floor dining room, encircling the sophisticated soft brown chairs and sleek wooden tables. Long benches form booths, perfect for extensive conversation over the great Japanese fare. Soft lighting and warm tones further enhance the elegance of the main dining area.

Move upstairs to choose from one of many small rooms, each hosting a low dark table and often couples enjoying a quiet moment to themselves. The largest private room holds a long twenty-seating dinner table, providing ample leg room-atypical for Japanese style restaurants, but perhaps more comfortable. White-capped and aproned sushi chefs cut up and dish out plate after plate of fresh sushi and sashimi, all presented beautifully for the enjoyment of both the eye and the palate. Creative sushi and melt-in-your-mouth sashimi certainly draw a crowd, but don’t be afraid to try some of Ohan’s lesser-known-and equally as divine-signature dishes. Seafood lovers should sample the donbin mushi, a seafood broth laden with oysters, salmon and mushrooms, served in a teapot. Squeeze in a bit of lime, pour into a tiny dish and relish the full-flavor of this delicacy. Other must-tries include the perfectly battered and never greasy tempura, grilled yakitori (pork cutlets) and fermented soybeans with tuna. An extensive menu makes certain everyone finds something to enjoy, and the elegant and chic feel to the restaurant will have visitors ordering more and more just to continue relaxing. Attentive service, knowledgeable staff and healthy food make this a favorite-especially amongst expatriates who have made Phu My Hung home.
